Production of Immunity in Mice by Inhalation of Pneumococci
نویسنده
چکیده
1. A definite degree of active immunity can be induced in mice through the repeated inhalation of live pneumococci. 2. Only slight immunity is induced in mice by the repeated inhalation of killed organisms.

Pathology of Experimental Pneumococcus Pneumonia in Mice. by Arnold
In preceding papers (1) it has been shown that virulent pneumococci generally disappear from the lungs of normal mice within a few hours after inhalation and do not give rise to generalized infection. In alcohol-intoxicated mice, however, pneumococci persist in the lungs for a longer period and a fatal septicemia frequently follows. I t has further been shown (2) that a high degree of immunity ...
متن کاملExperimental Production of Pneumococcus Pneumonia in Mice by the Inhalation Method
1. Non-immune mice which are alcoholized and die of septicemia following exposure to a spray of virulent pneumococci rarely show any localization of infection in the lung. 2. Mice which have been partially immunized by previous inhalations of living or killed pneumococci and which while alcoholized are exposed to an atmosphere of virulent pneumococci often develop a pneumococcus lobar pneumonia...
متن کاملLocalization of Pneumococci in the Lungs of Partially Immunized Mice following Inhalation of Pneumococci
1. When mice are passively immunized by the intraperitoneal injection of antipneumococcus horse serum or actively by the injection of heat-killed pneumococcus cultures, and are then alcoholized and sprayed with a culture of pneumococci of the same type as that of the bacteria employed in immunization, a considerable number die with localized lesions in the lungs. 2. If instead of injecting immu...
متن کاملEffect of Aloe Vera Herbal Extract on Innate Immunity in Balb/c Mice Against Candida Albicans
Background: Based on the reports, Aloe vera extract, a herbal medicine, has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. Also, this medicinal plant has considerable effects on innate immunity through cytokine secretion which resist fungal infections such as Candida albicans. Moreover, Aloe vera is considered as immunomodulatory agent and regulate inflammatory responses. Materials and Methods: I...
متن کاملImmunization of Experimental Animals with a Soluble Antigen Extracted from Pneumococci
Pneumococci killed by acetic acid at pH 4.2, then allowed to become Gram-negative at pH 7.0, under conditions such that no cellular disintegration takes place, release in solution small amounts of a substance which is precipitable by acetic acid, and soluble at neutral reaction. This soluble fraction injected into rabbits by the intravenous route causes the production of antibodies which afford...
